List of ancient Indian doctors

The following is a list of ancient doctors in India.

The Ayurvedic System of medicine is popular in India (also known as Bharat/Hindustan).

The great physician Sushain used Sanjeevani Herb on Laxman, brother of Lord Rama, as evidenced in the holy book Ramayana. The Ayurvedic doctors are addessed as Vaidya. The following are ancient Indian doctors/Vaidyas:

1. Charaka :Famous Physician and writer of ancient book Charaka Samhita'.
2. Shusrut:Famous Physician & Surgeon. He also wrote a book named as Sushrut Samhita. He was the first Physician and Surgeon,who discovered Injection. He started injecting medicines with the help of Snake teeth. He also discovered and used Singi on his patients.
3. Chawan Rishi:Chawan Rishi is famous for discovering of Tonic for internal power of Human Being. The name of the Tonic is Chawanprash,which is still popular.
